History of Borough Market

One of the oldest food market's in London Borough Market was first established by the Romans after the first London Bridge was built. The market then existed in one shape or form in the same location by (and often on) London bridge until the market was established in it's current location in 1756.

The present Market

In 1756 an act or parliament abolished the old market but gave permission to the parishoners of Southwark Cathedral to build a new market in the current location.
